I am so proud to announce a new member of the fleet of machines in our studio. A STUNNING 1949 Singer Featherweight 221! I recently had the pleasure of using one when I was out of town at a conference. I fell in love with the compact style and precise straight lock stitch it produced. Quiet, solid, and ultimately a premium piece of machinery that craves to be used and enjoyed!
This model came with the famous Singer buttonholer and a myriad of templates.
I am often reminded how fortunate I am, that I am educated in manipulating fabric with a simple straight stitch machine and still be able to create magnificent garments and accessories. The joy of using a vintage machine that has been well cared for is beyond words. I often wonder about the women who used it before me and what their lives might have been like. I can only hope they derived as much joy in using it as I do.
