How to Recharge your Batteries and Inspire

So many times we get caught up in the hamster wheel of life.  Go to work, come home, take care of the family, run errands, try to serve our community a bit, etc.  It all becomes a bit much these days.

I have found that being a small business owner, it is even more of a challenge.  I can get so caught up in my work that I forget to properly take care of myself. That is the exact opposite of what needs to happen.

So I have decided to take a much needed mental health break and go with a friend on vacation.  a bunch of dogs, in the mountains, and salt water swimming, horseback riding, fishing, creeks, streams, rivers, historical towns nearby and more. I am looking forward to the peace and quiet, no sewing machines, and bring my paint supplies and camera to focus on my other forms of art to hopefully inspire me in new ways.

Above are a few of the recent projects and a few old ones I’ve worked on.   Getting ready to launch the non-profit company to produce Pennsylvania grown and dyed and hand sewn hemp historical American flags to support mental health.

At a time when our country needs MORE mental health facilities and resources, it is also the time that they have been reduced by more than 60% in many areas across the country.  This is unacceptable.  It creates a breeding ground for more misunderstandigs, violence, discontent, anger in general and people who are scared and do not trust.  That’s the LAST thing we need at this time in our lives.  Competent mental health help was hard enough to get before the reductions were made, now its almost impossible!

Honestly, there is not enough information on the connection between good nutrition, exercis, surrounding yourself with mentally healthy people and your own mental health. As living conditions are unstable for many these days and jobs are in flux, the stress levels are incredibly high adding to all of this.  Another reason to find quality coping skills and qualified people to be around and resources for safely venting.  Alcohol is NOT the solution, not is getting high or masking the symptoms.  Depression, anxiety and related issues are real and need proper guidance to manage them.

I have made my own mental health a priority by utilizing the services of my family doctor combined with chiropractor, massage, soon accupuncture, revised and improved nutritional plan, yoga, Pilates and more.

I am even taking my puppy on vacation as he is a source of joy for me and will be focusing on some of his much need training refresher.

All of this and more makes me easier to be around, and less anxious and able to handle life that is more stressful these days.  Life is complicated for all of us.  Between family members havng car accidents, business slow at times, relationship changes (not just primary relationships, people make other choices), mother nature kicking butt, life is COMPLICATED.  I am hoping this time off gives me a fresh outlook and some new ideas for the coming seasons and recharges my personal batteries.  I have so much that I want to accomplish, and its easier when I take better care of myself and I am in top form.  (I LOVE TO SWIM – especially in salt water pools)

So PLEASE be good to yourself and find some balance and be happy.

So many consumers have become accustomed to the minimized timelines from the runway to the store’s in the fashion industry.  The majority of the items you see from store to store are basically copy and paste.  Designers buy items of interest and then recreate them with 7 points of interest that are changed to avoid getting sued.

Clothes make people..more now than ever.  We don’t always like to admit it, but we are judged by how we present ourselves to society.  If you are a bit overweight or getting on in years, you are basically invisible to the world.  You are noticed when you conform to what is considered beautiful by the current standards of society.  Over half of Instagram posts are about fashion influencers.  We seem to be enthralled with labels and those who are shopping addicts, thus they gravitate to to fast fashion.  The impulse to buy is triggered in a part of the brain that handles the rewards circuit, with the primary factor being the price.

And we haven’t even started discussing the luxury brands!  The high end brands that for some reason are worth exorbitant amounts of money, far more than the costs of goods and labor, just to say you can afford to carry that brands label.
