So the other day I drove to Philadelphia to pick up over 100 pounds of buttons, this is just a sample. Boxes and tins and jars full of vintage buttons. Why on God’s good earth would I do this you ask? Especially knowing that I will have to wash them all, measure each one and sort by color, size style and content and then bag and tag them? Because finding quality buttons is getting harder and harder to find these days.
When you to a fabric store what is offered are more craft buttons than quality garment buttons. nd the garment district in New York is not exactly down the street. I have ALWAYS collected buttons and in the past few years become a bit obsessed in how I store them. I always clean them properly and sort and store them in acid free baggies tagged and am considering selling some on the site as there is no way I will ever need the volume I have [2 cabinets full]. However it is lovely to find exactly the perfect button when making a creation for someone and I ALWAYS have the basics on hand.
So in the near future look for selections of vintage and exquisite buttons for sale on this site at great prices. Knowing that they are carefully selected and if you are looking for something special I just might have it.
I do a great deal of bead work for period clothes so I am always on the lookout for quality beads as well. As I make a great deal of lingerie, the bows and and ready made roses make life SO much easier and frankly my life simpler and just better. The little bits and bobs that make a garment special and quality fasteners are a sign of a higher end piece of clothing. This helps the garment last longer and when you take the time have something made for you, isn’t that what you want? You have had a piece of art created for you, you want it to last.
