The past few years have FLOWN by and I am glad to see them gone. So much has happened and so much has changed and yet much has stayed the same. Sadly humans have put their heads in the sand and ignored the damage to the planet via fast fashion, solution, energy consumption and an orgy of consumerism.
For the this small business it has been a challenge on many levels. Personal health issues faced and conquered. I am now partly bionic! MAJOR lifestyle changes and it’s all good. Thor continues his training and gets remedial lessons as we often go for weeks without seeing people. I have made sure he has his canine friends that he can play with. Hello Peanut and Buddy! Those playdates are his salvation.
On the professional side, I have upgraded all technology [YES I use a Mac and LOVE IT!]. New computers, New cameras [including the latest GoPro and all accessories], new microphones, interns who hopefully will return when her health is better. CAD software for the fashion industry that blows my mind. I now design on the computer and program it with carefully taken measurements and the software compensates for body challenges [sloping shoulders, one leg longer than the other, etc]. Makes drafting patterns a breeze. We’ve expanded services and found a need to help with curating wardrobes to create a more sustainable life. Easier on the budget as well. We review what you have, where you THINK you want to go, and the best way to get you there with a budget. We are realistic. Economically there are some tough times ahead. We have always been fans of recycling and repurposing. We are even more-so now.

So many consumers have become accustomed to the minimized timelines from the runway to the store’s in the fashion industry. The majority of the items you see from store to store are basically copy and paste. Designers buy items of interest and then recreate them with 7 points of interest that are changed to avoid getting sued.
Clothes make people..more now than ever. We don’t always like to admit it, but we are judged by how we present ourselves to society. If you are a bit overweight or getting on in years, you are basically invisible to the world. You are noticed when you conform to what is considered beautiful by the current standards of society. Over half of Instagram posts are about fashion influencers. We seem to be enthralled with labels and those who are shopping addicts, thus they gravitate to to fast fashion. The impulse to buy is triggered in a part of the brain that handles the rewards circuit, with the primary factor being the price.
And we haven’t even started discussing the luxury brands! The high end brands that for some reason are worth exorbitant amounts of money, far more than the costs of goods and labor, just to say you can afford to carry that brands label.
