Formal Gown Alterations

Unlike the clothes we normally wear, much more time and detailed tailoring goes into a gown. The number of fittings depend on the alterations required.  Your dress may just need hemming, or extensive alterations involving side and bust seams, replacing a zipper or more.

What you can expect:

  • First appointment at least 2-4 months in advance.
  • First fitting should be at least two months before your event. This first fitting is for pinning and measuring.
  • Second fitting takes place 2 to 3 weeks after the first. After temporary adjustments to the bodice are applied, more adjustments to the bodice and extra fittings may be needed (usually no fabric is cut until that time).
  • Pinning for hemming is next after the alterations to the bodice of the dress are done.
  • Final fitting when the hem is finished, the bustle is being created at that time.

Allow 2-3 weeks between each fitting.

Come prepared:

  • It’s essential to bring the shoes you plan to wear with the outfit.
  • Wear or bring your best fitting undergarments to each of your fittings, the same ones you plan to wear for your special day. Foundation garments can make a difference of up to 2 inches in the hemline or waist and also show if dress will be too revealing in any area.
  • Fleur
  • Our is a professional alterations expert, she may advise against certain structural changes that may compromise the integrity of your gown.
  • Any concerns that arise with the fit of the garment, pricing, or any other issues must be discussed immediately with the seamstress so that she can resolve the situation. Fleur Feroce, Inc. has the right to refuse service to any individual, under any circumstances, at any time.

The more alterations on your dress needs, and the more complex your dress is, the more fittings you will need. If your weight changes at all (beyond 3-5 pounds), there is obviously a surcharge as we will have to alter the dress accordingly.

Pinning Fees:
If you meet with the seamstress and decide not to continue with alterations, you will be charged a pinning fee. You have 3 days in which to make such decisions and alert the seamstress. There is NO cancellations for rush garments.
